Barrie is not a solo project. Happy To Be Here is a suitable title for the debut LP from the Brooklyn-based quintet, a group that thrives on collaboration and diversity. “The scaffolding of this album is moving to New York and finding these people that make up the band,” founder Barrie Lindsey says. New recruits were found physically via Brooklyn’s The Lot Radio and digitally on Tinder. “We’re very different, but we cover each other’s gaps personally and creatively, and are eager to learn from each other.” Co-produced by Jake Aron (Snail Mail, Beth Orton, Jamie Lidell), this record is a well curated cross-section of indie pop eclecticism. “Darjeerling” starts with faraway claps and chirpy rhythm guitar, “Saturated” is a sunny Casio beat with hazy, reverb-soaked vocals. Pressed on transparent red vinyl, includes a printed inner with full album lyrics.
