HELLO BREUKELEN. Dutch-born, L.A.-based Palmbomen II teams up again with old pal Betonkust to follow up their debut as a duo on 1080p with this 6-track EP on Dutch techno imprint Pinkman. Tape saturation is still the duo’s weapon of choice: the record traverses an array of styles all the while staying firmly in the red. From bleepy acid techno (“N401”) to blown-up & blissed-out electro (“Boven De Wet”); the darker side of Kraftwerk ("Donkerblauwe Auto’s") to the darker side of Legowelt (“Suite 100”). Hotel Breukelen is not without its gentler moments, though: “Zwaluw” sounds like the “X-Files” theme retooled for the chillout room.
