Eighty-first studio album from country music legend Johnny Cash. American Recordings was originally released in 1994 and was the first installment in a series of albums for Rick Rubin's label of the same name. When Cash was signed to Rubin's label in 1994 he was a living legend that was struggling to get any interest in his most recent work. After working with producers like Jack Clement who wanted to add to much to his sound, Rubin sought a more minimalist approach for Cash. The album was recorded in Cash's living room with nothing but his acoustic guitar. Rubin's approach, simply doing nothing, turned out to be just what the country singer needed. He was able to capture the emotional power of Cash's voice, and introduce him to a new audience at the same time. The album is filled with originals as well as covers of songs from artists like Kris Kristofferson and Tom Waits. Includes the songs: "Tennessee Stud," "The Beast In Me," and "Delia's Gone." Thirteen tracks in all. Released by American Recordings on 180 gram vinyl.
