New Primus! The Desaturating Seven is the band’s first official full-length since 2011’s Green Naugahyde and should be a breath of fresh air for longtime Primus fans, as the album is the first to feature founding member Tim Alexander on drums since 1995’s Tales From The Punchbowl (the drummer left the band in 1996 and has been on-again-off-again ever since). Seven slices of the SF trio’s signature oddball prog, led by Les Claypool’s ingenious bass slaps and mad scientist incantation. The concept of the album is inspired by a bugged-out Italian children’s book called The Rainbow Goblins which Claypool apparently read to his kids when they were young. The album closely follows the story of the book, and track 1 (“The Valley”) features a special appearance by Tool bassist Justin Chancellor delivering a narration of The Goblin Master.
