Reggie Andrews And The Fellowship: Mystic Beauty (180g) Vinyl LP

Reggie Andrews And The Fellowship: Mystic Beauty (180g) Vinyl LP

This is the kind of reissue that splits the jazz digger dork society into 50% conniption fit / 50% hallelujah. While some cling to theĀ fantasy that they might someday get their hands on an original private press hen’s teeth LP that only a handful of people have actually laid eyes on, the rest of us just want to own a copy of a great record. Reggie Andrews wrote The Dazz Band’s ā€œLet It Whip,ā€ helped arrange Rick James’ ā€œSuper Freak,ā€ co-founded jazz-funk supergroup Karma, worked with Earth Wind & Fire and served as a technician on some of our favorite jazz-funk albums including Blacks & Blues and Black Byrd, and poor old Reggie doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page. This lone album of his (and its price on the second hand market) speaks for itself though, released in a tiny run in 1969 on HME. It’s since become a holy grail for deep jazz nerds, thanks to its gorgeously straightforward arrangements incorporating elements of Latin and gospel long before it became de rigueur in the seventies. Check out the title track, ā€œSir Lady,ā€ ā€œLook Of Loveā€ and ā€œSong For J.ā€ Official 180g repress housed in heavy cardboard jacket with obi strip.
