Dead bloodclart is a dead bumbaclart… 2017 repress of Remarc’s R.I.P. 12-inch, a major standout in Suburban Base’s illustrious and highly collectable catalog, and top 5 all-time soundboy killer tune. Jungle rarely comes in deadlier or more rambunctious forms than this; Remarc distills the sort of high-intensity ragga records Sub Base was cranking out in ’94 or ’95 into one tune to rule them all. “R.I.P.” is all muscle, boasting the perfect amount of amen murderation and gun talk (“pussy get a coffin then dem soon get the wreath, me bawl!”) without O.D.ing the way most jump-up tunes do. But as we’ve matured, “Ice Cream & Syrup” reveals itself to be our pick of the three tracks here, with icy rhodes licks and porno flick samples sprinkled over rolling breaks and tuned 808s. The “Hard Mix” splits the difference between the first two tracks, trading in subtly-chopped Sesame Street breaks and sensual allure for harsh staccato Amen rolls and raggamuffin chat. We managed to get our hands on a small grip of this clear vinyl pressing (as well as DJ Hype’s Roll The Beats 12-inch), which was previously only available in the UK for RSD 2017. Recommended.
