Anchored by Roy Ayers' much admired vibraphone work, exquisite musical arrangement and laidback vocals, the soundtrack forĀ Pam Grier's revenge saga has become as iconic as the film itself. The uptempo funk of opener "Coffy Is the Color" sets it off firing on all cylinders; it's an all-timer with blaxploitation scratch guitar and Roy's signature minor chord modulations. "Escape" is the quintessential blaxploitation cut; "Aragon" is another beautiful example of Ayers' ability to merge funk with action music. "Brawling Broads," "Coffy Baby"Ā featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater,Ā and the pensive and summery "Priscilla's Theme" are other highlights.
