Anyone who pretends to be too cool to dance to this is a cop! The sole collaboration between Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, 2nd-string French house maverick Alan Braxe and singer Benjamin Diamond; after making a track this perfect (and profitable) why risk squandering it by doing anything else (they purportedly turned down 3 million dollars to make a full-length album)? It’s a masterclass in sampling, restraint, use of filters, repetition, not singing too much but just enough. It’s hard not to be moved by “Music Sounds Better With You,” even still. True to the original, this 20th anniversary edition with refreshed cover art features just the 7 minute original version of the tune on single-sided vinyl, with a new custom etching on the flip side paying tribute to the original sleeve design from Bangalter’s Roule label issue, and the audio is a new cut from the original vinyl master. Totally essential, highly recommended.
