The Tallest Man on Earth: I Love You. It's a Fever Dream. (Indie Exclusive Colored Vinyl) Vinyl LP
The Tallest Man On Earth is the stage name of Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson. He is primarily a folk musician, drawing ample comparisons to Bob Dylan, but perhaps a bit more coherent. (Sorry, Bob.) He claims his primary inspiration from the creator of the āhigh, lonesome soundā of bluegrass musician Roscoe Holcomb, but also rates Emmylou Harris, Feist, and Cat Power as influences. 2008 saw his debut LPĀ Shallow Grave (Mexican Summer), the success of which lead to an opening slot on Bon Iverās tour. After much personal change across three records on Dead Oceans,Ā I Love You. Itās A Fever Dream. is his first for Rivers/Birds, and is a frank discussion of the bits and pieces that make up his inner monologue. There are grim moments and wrought metaphors, but they are often punctuated by moments of crystal clarity. āHotel Barā is alternate-picked guitar that approaches and retreats, delicate string flourishes and self-assuring lyrics. āThe Running Styles Of New Yorkā is an electric number, scowling guitars and slabs of piano. āMy Dearā is vibrant fingerpicking over the softest kick drum Iāve ever heard, āIām a Stranger Nowā is a dramatic harmonica-led folk workout, the instrument gets a chance to stretch out on āWaiting For My Ghostā. This record is pressed on 'coke bottle clear' vinyl and is packaged in a gatefold sleeve.
