It’s remix time. Scandi house jester Todd Terje (pronounced “tare-yay”, not to be confused with Todd Terry, a.k.a. Todd The God, not to be confused with Todd Edwards, also known as Todd The God) teases his new track “Jungelknugen” by slipping out two heavy-hitting remixes ahead of the release of the original. “Jungelknugen” (which Google translates into “jungle scrooge”, but I’m told by the Norwegian house mafia that “knugen” is actually just a funny spelling of “kungen”, which means “king”) is slated to appear on Todd’s new album later this year, according to a cheeky press release: "After the show it's the afterparty and before the album it's the remix single! That's right folks, the Todd is back, bucking trends and shucking conventions to bring us two tip-top reworks of an as yet unreleased original." Four Tet’s mix is a heavy dose of the sort of Fabric Room One crescendoing piano house we look to him for in 2017 as Kieran Hebden continues to refine his revisionist history raver aesthetic and pretend his early days of making woodblock trip-hop records in the forest never happened. On the flip, Norwegian house royalty Prins Thomas turns in an extended krauty disco mix, splicing lush piano licks in the cracks between droning bass vamps and a swinging Motorik beat. Finally, a tune I can slip in between NEU! and Donna Summer records. Housed in a smart Olsen disco sleeve.
