James Brooown, Jaaames Broooowwwwn!Ā Tom Tom Club's classic debut reissued on lovely translucent green vinyl. Founded by Talking HeadsĀ membersĀ Tina WeymouthĀ andĀ Chris FrantzĀ (who also happened to be a husband-and-wife team), Ā Tom Tom Club would create a distinct sound that brought together funk, new wave, reggae, post-punk, and dub with an infectious appeal. This is their 1981 breakout debut and arguably their best album (at least IMO) containingĀ numerousĀ jams including the timeless "Genius Of Love" that has been covered and sampled by countless artists, but no one can hold a torch to the O. G. (sorryĀ Mariah). Also includes the funky disco rap ofĀ "Wordy Rappinghood," the percussive tropical groove of "Tom Tom Theme," the left field synthpop vibe of "Lorelei," "On, On, On, On...." and more. Eclectic, funky, and fun. 8 tracks in all, recommended.
